Easily one of the best graphic novels I've read to date, with breathtakingly beautiful artwork on almost every one of it's 670 odd pages and storytelling to match. Set in a fictional middle-eastern landscape it explores many themes, in some pretty heavy ways, spanning from sexuality and identity to beauty and love. An amazing example of just how far the comic medium has come since the 'Famous Funnies' in the 30s, and the cloud of Supermen that seem to block the light radiated from all the good stuff beyond.
The islamic-influenced artwork is incredible, it holds up on its own regardless of any text/story and often tells stories of it's own. (
